Session 1
Message Method Fundamentals
Take the guesswork out of wrestling through content to determine what to share with an audience.
In this interactive workshop, you will be guided through a structured thought approach that begins with understanding the audience, providing necessary context, answering the audience’s question, and organizing content to create a clear, concise bottom-line message.
Learning Objectives:
- Determine and create the highest value messages for an audience
- Build a common platform on which speakers/teams can organize key communications
- Identify and deliver bottom-line first messages
INDEPENDENT STUDY 1
Influential Storytelling: 30 minutes
Our storytelling module will teach participants how to find and share the stories that help them bridge the gap between what they know and what they want their audience to understand.
Learning Objectives:
- Understand what a story is, why it works in modern organizations, how to use stories effectively, and when it’s best to use them.
- Learn how storytelling fits into a larger message framework and share the types of stories that resonate with audiences.
Session 2
Message Method Feedback Session: 1.5 – 2 hour, small group, virtual
It’s not the methodology that matters. It’s how you use the method to communicate your unique insights.
In this session, you will apply what you have learned during Message Method Fundamentals to an actual communication that needs to be delivered to a specific audience. You will share your framework with your coach and a small group cohort for feedback and ways to make your communication stronger.
*Number and timing of sessions will depend upon the number of participants. Maximum of six people per session.
INDEPENDENT STUDY 2
Slide Visuals Best Practices: 20 minutes
When you must incorporate slide visuals into your communication, they can either support your message or distract from it. In this asynchronous session, participants will learn how to create slide visuals that engage the audience and help your message stick.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the four primary purposes of slide visuals.
- Determine the design features of a successful slide visual.
- Communicate effectively with slides by using visual or verbal cues.
Session 3
Hot Seat Training
Anyone whose position puts them before a microphone or camera to present, discuss or defend their organizations is at risk of success or failure or somewhere in between. In all these situations, you have a message. What you need is help delivering it without wandering into uncharted territory, muddying your response with doubt, inviting criticism or responding to off-topic questions.
Learning Objectives:
- Stick to your message, intent, and desired outcome
- Present and defend your organization on panels or when making big asks
- Prepare for and deliver public testimony
INDEPENDENT STUDY 3:
Cultivating a Listening Practice: 10 minute video and worksheet
Sometimes it’s a matter of missing the details of a meeting. Or it might be the difference between landing a huge contract and not, because you didn’t hear the client’s unique requests in order to adjust your approach. We need to get better at listening.
Learning Objectives:
- Discover the five levels of listening
- Identify when you might encounter barriers to listening.
- Craft a strategy to deepen your listening practice
Session 4
Style & Delivery with Influential Presence: full-day, in-person*
It’s not just WHAT you say. Sometimes it’s HOW you say it.
This all-day, in-person retreat brings together everything you have learned up until this point and then goes further, asking: how do you show up as your best, most influential self?
This session is all about helping you develop and hone your power to influence through a combination of gravitas and communication. You will work through the process of understanding your own presence – from the quality of your voice, to the words you choose, to how you communicate non-verbally. Throughout, you will build better skills to command attention, evoke confidence, influence people and transform outcomes.
Learning Objectives:
- Understanding what your voice conveys and implementing new techniques to strengthen your vocal presence.
- Peer-to- peer interactive exercises allowing you to understand your ability to coach others in their style and delivery
- Creating an awareness of primary stress response and its impact on presence
- How to strategically incorporate practice in order to make long-term change
The day will culminate with a 5-minute presentation, You’ll receive peer and coach feedback on your content, style, and delivery.
*Includes breakfast and lunch, snacks and drinks
